WAR ON TERROR: Man arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of terrorism... then released on bail

ARRESTED: The man was held at Heathrow, but later released on bail on to the streets (Business Traveller)

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of a terrorism offence as he landed in the UK on a flight from Germany.

The 29-year-old was stopped by officers from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command at Heathrow Airport yesterday.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of membership of a proscribed organisation, contrary to section 11 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The Met has not said which terrorist group he is suspected of belonging to, what his nationality is, or if he had been anywhere before travelling from Germany.

He was detained and taken to a south London police station and later released on police bail to a date in mid-June pending further enquiries.

A Met Police spokesman said: "As part of the investigation, officers also carried out a search at an address in north west London. Enquiries continue."
