Boy 15 one of two people arrested over suspected fire bomb attack on Gants Hill Indian restaurant - two victims still fighting for their lives

A 15-year-old boy is one of two people who have been arrested by detectives investigating a suspected arson attack  on a Gants Hill Indian restaurant.

He and a 54-year-old man were arrested today, Sunday, 24 August 2025, on suspicion of arson with intent to danger life and remain in police custody.

Officers were called to the Indian Aroma restaurant in Woodford Avenue, Grants Hill on Friday, 22 August at around 9pm.

Five confirmed victims – three women and two men – were injured in the incident. Three of them were said to be in life-threatening conditions, now two of them remain so.

Nine people got out before the fire service arrived. It is also believed there are two further victims who left the scene before officers arrived. Efforts remain ongoing to identify them.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, of the Met’s Central Specialist Crime North unit said: “While we have made two arrests, our investigation continues at pace so we can piece together what happened on Friday evening.

“I know the community are concerned and shocked by this incident. I would urge anyone with any information or concerns to come forward and speak to police.”

The five were treated at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and were taken hospital.

Footage which is said to be from CCTV inside and outside the restaurant has been released on the IG1IG3 Facebook page.

DCI Rogers added: “My team of specialist detectives are working at speed to piece the incident together. “Locals can expect to see a large police presence in the area. If you have any concerns, please speak to those officers on the ground.”
