Black British man charged with attempted murder after woman left in critical condition after being stabbed in neck

WEST Midlands Police have tonight (Saturday November 8 2025) charged a man with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in Birmingham.
Djeison Rafael, 21, was charged following an incident in Smallbrook Queensway last night (7 November).
He has also been charged with two further assaults and possession of a blade.
Rafael was arrested following the incident, which saw a woman in her 30s taken to hospital with a serious neck injury.
Rafael, who is a Black British national, has been remanded to appear before magistrates in Birmingham on Monday 10th November 2025.
A force spokesperson said: "We are continuing our enquiries and are keen to hear from anyone who knows more about what happened or the movements of Rafael, who was wearing an all grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and rucksack at the time of the incident.
The force earlier said it believes it was an unprovoked attack.
A spokesperson said: "We were called to Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm after reports of a stabbing.
"A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital with a serious neck injury where she remains in a critical condition.
"Our officers are at the scene carrying out enquiries as we try to establish the exact circumstances of what happened."
Detective Inspector James Nix said: “We believe this was an unprovoked attack and are working to understand why it happened.
“We will have officers in the area today to continue our investigation and provide reassurance.
“We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
Officers investigating have opened a Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) where members of the public can submit photos or video relevant to the investigation.
The spokesperson added: "We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the city centre area before the incident, or who might have seen the person responsible acting suspiciously."
