Two men arrested after woman killed in suspected hit-and-run near pub on Friday night

TWO men have been arrested after a woman was killed and two men were injured in a suspected hit-and-run crash in Wigan.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said a silver Land Rover Freelander collided with three pedestrians on the pavement near a pub on Ormskirk Road at around 9.20pm on Friday.

Emergency services attended and a woman in her 40s, believed to be a mum-of-three, was taken to hospital, where she died a short time later.

Two male pedestrians suffered serious injuries, the force said.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and officers have since arrested two men on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They remain in custody.

Greater Manchester Police said the scene is cordoned off and urged drivers to avoid the road.

Pc Oliver Batty, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family who are understandably devastated by the circumstances of how their loved one has lost their life.

“We immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances and the road has been closed for some time whilst we carried out a number of inquiries.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who may have any information or dashcam footage that may be able to assist with our investigation and give the woman’s family the answers they deserve.”
