EXCLUSIVE: Driver arrested after pedestrian in collision with car in late night accident in Witham

A DRIVER has been arrested after a man was seriously injured after being in collision with a car last night.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Albert Road (B1018) was closed either side of The Railway pub as paramedics got the pedestrian into an ambulance and police investigated the collision.


News of the incident was broken by our sister TikTok site @newsjunkie3 within minutes of it happening.

A man was seen being placed onto a stretcher by an ambulance crew while several onlookers were in the street.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a collision in Albert Road, Witham at around 10.50pm on Sunday 17 August.

"It was reported a pedestrian and a Ford Fiesta were involved.

"The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, sustained multiple serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

"The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is currently in custody.

An East of England Ambulance Trust spokesperson said: "We were called just after 10.50pm on Sunday with reports of a road traffic collision on Chipping Hill, Witham involving a car and a pedestrian. Two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and a response car from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

"The pedestrian was transported to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with serious injuries."
