Man pulled from water at Hollow Ponds Whipps Cross yesterday during record temperatures sadly died police confirm as they try to identify him

A MAN was pulled from the water at Hollow Ponds in Whipps Cross during record June temperatures for the UK yesterday was pronounced dead in hospital the Met Police has confirmed.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson earlier said that a male found in the water was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital as a priority.

However, the police has just confirmed that he was sadly later pronounced as deceased.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to a report of a man unresponsive in the water at Hollow Ponds, E11 at 18:46hrs on Friday, 27 June.

A 37-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he was then sadly pronounced deceased. Work is ongoing to identify his next of kin.

"His death is being treated as unexpected, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

"If you have any information please call police via 101 quoting CAD 7510/26Jun.”

 A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said earlier today: “We were called at 6.43pm yesterday (26 June 2026) to reports of a person in the water near Whipps Cross Road, E11.

“We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and paramedics from our Hazardous Area Response Team.

“We treated a patient at the scene and took him to hospital as a priority.”

Temperatures reached 37.3 degrees Celsius in Suffolk yesterday - a record for June.

Police remained at the scene into the evening with a taped off area around Hollow Pond off Whipps Cross Road at 10.30pm.

Police cars were seen parked near the junction with James Lane by the large boating lake in Epping Forest.

A police officer was seen emerging from the lake area back onto the road.
