Police given more time to quiz four arrested over Manchester Synagogue attack carried out by Jihad al-Shamie

COUNTER terror police have been granted warrants of further detention for four people arrested in connection with the Manchester synagogue attack.

They are two men, aged 30 and 32, and a 61-year-old woman arrested in Prestwich and a 46-year-old woman arrested in Farnworth.

This means they can remain in custody for up to a further five days.

An 18-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man, who were arrested in Farnworth, were released with no further action today, October 4 2025.

Everyone in custody has been arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Our investigation into the appalling terrorist incident that took place outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue (on Thursday) is continuing at pace.

The investigation is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW), supported by resources from across the national Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) network and Greater Manchester Police.

Significant resources from across CTP have been mobilised in order to establish the full picture into what has happened.

The spokesperson added: "We’re continuing to respond effectively to emergencies in the region while ensuring that every available officer in Greater Manchester is currently deployed to provide reassurance, particularly amongst our Jewish communities, at what is a time of profound distress and sorrow.

"We have been patrolling places of worship across the city-region, with a particular focus on providing a high-visibility presence within our Jewish communities in north Manchester, Bury and Salford.

"You will also see an increased presence in Manchester city centre this weekend with events continuing to take place as planned, including the Conservative party conference, three professional football matches across GM, and more than 20 other events.

"Policing never stops in Greater Manchester and our officers are on hand to engage with the public, offer reassurance, and respond to any incidents or concerns.

"In the last 24 hours we have continued to make sure we’re responding to the public in their time of need.

"We’ve answered more than 1500 999 calls in around two seconds; got to more than 300 emergencies within 15 minutes and made more than 200 arrests for offences such as domestic violence and burglary."

Anyone with concerns or information should approach our officers or call us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
