A CENTRAL London nightclub where LeAnn Rimes re-enacted scenes from the film Coyote Ugly suddenly closed after just over two years of being open.

The Coyote Ugly bar, named after the hit 2000 movie, opened as one of Piccadilly's premier locations on Shaftesbury Avenue in May 2023 with bar top dancing and bottomless brunches, opening until 3am.

But staff placed a sign in the window on June 30 2025 saying it has closed indefinitely "due to unforeseen circumstances" with no further explanation.

The management of the chain that describes its bars as 'the most famous on the planet period' also apologised for any inconvenience caused.

A post on its social media pages on Facebook and Instagram added: "That’s a wrap, Piccadilly. Thank you to everyone who danced on the bar, sang at the top of their lungs, and brought the Coyote Ugly spirit to central London.

"After an unforgettable run, Coyote Ugly Piccadilly has officially closed its doors."

There was no explanation for the sudden closure, but it added: "But this isn’t goodbye forever. We’d love to be back in the West End in the future. Until then, you can still get your Coyote Ugly fix at our other UK locations."

The venue is already being marketed as a prime London venue by letting agents P-Three, but subject to vacant possession.

One prospective customer said they had been earlier told their booking had been cancelled but with allegedly no refund given.

In a review on Tripadvisor, they posted: "Was booked for a bottomless brunch in June and needed to change the date due to unforeseen circumstances.

"New date was agreed by the venue and a couple of weeks later, I got an email to say the new booking had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, no reason given and to this date still no reason given. Was told I should expect a refund within three to five working days, nearly two weeks later and guess what? Still waiting for a refund.

"All emails are being ignored and phone calls are not being answered. (A cost of) £162 which has essentially gone down the drain!"

The first ever Coyote Ugly Saloon Bar was opened in New York in 1993 by Liliana "Lil" Lovell and featured wild west-inspired decor and female bartenders dancing on the bar.

The brand became globally renowned after the release of the film Coyote Ugly in 2000, which featured Adam Garcia, Tyra Banks and Rimes as herself, and its soundtrack had four of her songs including Can't Fight The Moonlight.

In 2009 the brand was franchised internationally, including to the UK, where eight of its bars remain at Blackpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Camden, Liverpool and Swansea.

In November 2023 Rimes visited the Piccadilly branch, where she was photographed striking some of her favorite poses from the film at the spacious bar.

But, within months the venue was already facing serious financial problems.

On January 29 2024 Coyote Ugly London Limited, which ran the Piccadilly venue, appointed a voluntary liquidator.

A statement of affairs published on Companies House the same month reported 40 creditors who were owed a total of £2.4 million, including over £44,000 to HMRC.

On February 29 2024 a notice published in the The Gazette, of official public records, said that Caroline Wilce, 57, one of the directors of the company was to take over the running of the venue through a new company West End Groove Limited, that would be trading as Coyote Ugly Saloon.

John Rimmer, one of two joint liquidators of Business Recovery and Insolvency, who handled the liquidation, said that a separate firm had purchased the good will of the business to continue its trading.

According to Companies House Coyote Ugly Camden Limited, which runs the Camden branch, has 'significant control' of West End Groove Limited.

In unaudited accounts for the year to 30 September 2024 filed at Companies House on June 30, the day the Piccadilly branch closed, it said the Camden branch had made a loss of £188,989 for the period before tax and ended the year with net current liabilities of £245,914.

But, the firm reported being confident that the branch could continue trading.

The accounts added: "The company is reliant upon the financial support of its shareholders. Management accounts and forecasts have been prepared and these support the assertion that the financial statements should be prepared on a going concern basis."

It was reported this month that the national company has applied to redevelop a building in Edinburgh into a new venue for the chain in the Scottish city.

On their Edinburgh page, the firm states: "Coyote Ugly Edinburgh is coming in hot. This is the bar where the girls run the show – and you’re invited to the front row."

It hopes to open the branch in the autumn.

We have tried to contact Coyote Ugly Saloon UK, which runs all the UK venues, by phone and email, but there has been no response.

A woman who answered the phone at the Camden venue said she could not comment on the Piccadilly closure.
