MURDER CITY: Man charged in connection with murder of man, 60, in Dagenham on Sunday


A MAN has been charged with the murder of a 60-year-old man who died in Dagenham.

Connor Coveley 23, of Broad Street, Dagenham, has been charged with the murder of Stephen Goodman, who was found with fatal injuries in the early hours of Sunday, 14 August.

Coveley is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court this morning, Tuesday 16 August.

A 26-year-old man [A] and a 36-year-old man [B] who were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police were called at 12.06am on Sunday, 14 August to reports of an injured man at the junction of Ford Road and Broad Street.

Officers attended the scene along with the London Ambulance Service but, despite the best efforts of emergency workers, a 60-year-old man died at the scene.

His next of kin have been spoken to and are being supported by specialist officers. Formal identification awaits and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, said: “At this stage we believe a verbal altercation happened between a group of men and the victim, who was with a friend.

"The victim was then assaulted, suffering fatal injuries.

“We have arrested three men, but would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, as well as the lead up to it and the moments afterwards. The victim was assaulted at a busy junction and I believe there are people who are yet to come forward.”
