Man hit with £785 of fines and costs after doing a 'Tommy Robinson' over phone pin at Luton Airport

A MAN who did a Tommy Robinson (above), by refusing to hand over his phone pin, has been hit with £785 of fines and costs.

Kenneth Nyinying, 34, from Haden Hill, Wolverhampton, West Midlands, pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates' Court to one count of wilfully obstructing a search or examination under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 by failing to provide the pins to an Apple laptop and a Apple iPhone 11 when requested to on May 1 this year at Luton Airport.

The company director was fined at the court on Friday £500 with a surcharge to fund victim services of £200 plus £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Police can demand access to such pins if an individual is deemed to be acting suspiciously. It is not clear why Nyinying was thought to be behaving suspiciously.

Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Lennon, was asked for the pin to his iPhone at the Channel Tunnel on July 28 last year.

He has denied a similar offence, saying that police had no legal grounds to request his pin and only stopped him over his political beliefs.

He is awaiting the outcome after a two-day trial last week.
