Man charged with attempted murder of two police officers after one allegedly slashed in head with knife
A MAN has been charged with attempting to murder two police officers who were attacked with a knife in Harlow, Essex, on Friday.
One officer suffered a wound to her head and was admitted to hospital but has since been discharged. The second officer did not require hospital treatment.
The pair were called to concerns for the welfare of a man in Hull Grove, Harlow, shortly after 5.45pm.
Declan Diedrick, 23, (above) was later arrested and has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and a further count of possession of a knife.
He was due to appear before Colchester Magistrates' Court today (New Year's Day - January 1 2024).
Chief Superintendent Stuart Hooper said: "Thankfully both officers continue to recover from this harrowing incident on Friday evening.
"Their welfare remains paramount and they will be given support from the force for as long as they feel they need it.
"We've been authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service to charge Mr Diedrick and as such it would be inappropriate to comment any further."
