EXCLUSIVE: Man arretsed after woman claims to have been attacked in street

A MAN was arrested after a woman was allegedly assaulted and strangled in a street.

Video footage shows a suspect being arrested in Wanstead Lane, near The Drive in Ilford. An ambulance was also in attendance, although the alleged assault was said to have earlier taken place in Tomswood Hill.

A Met Police spokesman said: "On Wednesday, 8 October 2025, at 2:22pm, police were called to reports of a fight between two people at Tomswood Hill, Ilford.

"Officers found a 40-year-old woman at the scene with injuries that did not require hospital treatment. Police later located the suspect on Wanstead Lane, Ilford.

"A 43-year-old man was arrested for assault, non-fatal strangulation, harassment and criminal damage. He has been bailed pending further investigation and enquiries continue.

"We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider community."
