British Transport Police refuses to confirm if 'child in distress' was involved in incident at Goodmayes station that led to major delays on Greater Anglia trains from London to Essex

British Transport Police (BTP) has refused to if a child was involved in an incident that led to all train lines across the Greater Anglia network between Essex and London being affected on Monday morning, June 22 2026, after reports of a "person on the tracks".

Some Elizabeth Line services through Shenfield were also affected.

According to unconfirmed reports from a source a ten-year-old child was found to be in distress on a gantry at Goodmayes station.

BTP was asked about this.

A BTP spokesperson said: "We were called to Goodmayes station shortly before 9am this morning following reports of a concern for welfare.

"Officers attended along with paramedics and the person was taken to a place of safety."

Asked if the incident involved a child, the spokesperson added: "We won’t be confirming the age."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.23am yesterday (22 June) to reports of an unwell person at Goodmayes Rail Station, Ilford.

“We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and paramedics from our Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.

“We treated a patient at the scene and took her to hospital.”

Greater Anglia posted on X at the time: "Due to a trespass incident at #Goodmayes all lines are blocked. Train services running through this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until further notice."

National Rail also posted: "A trespass incident at Goodmayes means that all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between Stratford (London) and Romford may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 11:00."
