Louis De Zoysa denies murder of Met Police sergeant Matt Ratana in Croydon more than 2 years ago

A MAN has denied murdering Met Police Sergeant Matiu Ratana, who was shot dead while on duty in Croydon Custody suite two-and-a-half-years ago.

Mr Ratana, 54, known as Matt, was shot in the chest as a handcuffed suspect was being taken into custody at the south London custody centre on September 25 2020.

Louis De Zoysa, 25, from Banstead, Surrey, has been in hospital after being shot in the neck at the same time.

Mr De Zoysa today appeared at Northampton Crown Court via video link.

He was in a wheelchair, with his right arm in a sling while assisted by an intermediary.

Asked to enter a plea to Mr Ratana's murder, he held up a whiteboard with the words 'not guilty' written on it.

The case was adjourned for trial on a future date.
