Handgun and ammo is latest firearm found in London as seizures continue across capital

THREE people have been arrested and a firearm, ammunition and £9,000 in cash seized after two vehicles were stopped by specialist officers in north London.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command stopped a vehicle in John Bradshaw Road, Southgate. A Met Police spokesman said: "Officers searched the vehicle and found a boxed handgun and approximately 25 rounds of ammunition. "The driver, a 55-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. "He was taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody." The firearm was made safe and sent-off for forensic testing which confirmed it to be a converted 9mm P.A blank firing pistol. A short time later, a further vehicle was stopped by the Trojan Proactive Unit in Bourne Hill, Palmers Green. Officers searched the vehicle and found £9,000 in cash. Both occupants of the vehicle, a 24-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and money laundering. All three suspects were taken to a north London police station where they remain in custody. Detective Inspector Glenn Butler, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “This is an excellent example of teams working together in the Met to remove a dangerous weapon off the capital’s streets. “Each of the 25 bullets seized could have gone on to cause serious injury, or even death, if we had not seized them. “Firearms have no place in London and we are committed to robustly targeting both those who carry them and those who supply them.”
