EXCLUSIVE: Teen wanted for knife murder in Georgia is arrested in Edinburgh just weeks later

A TEEN wanted for a knife murder in Georgia is facing extradition after he was arrested in Scotland.

Aleksandre Bazhunaishvili, 19, was arrested on an Interpol Red Notice in Edinburgh on Saturday, July 15, and brought before Westminster Magistrates' Court.

The arrest warrant states: "On the evening of May 18 2023 in Kobuleti republic of Georgia, (he) murdered Giorgi Alkhanishvili by stabbing him multiple times."

Bazhunaishvili was remanded in custody and the extradition case was adjourned.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Officers arrested a 19-year-old man following an Interpol Red Notice for murder on behalf of the authorities in the Republic of Georgia, at a property in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh on Saturday, July 15 2023.

“He will now be subject to an extradition process.”
