PICCADILLY Circus tube station was closed as armed police mobbed the area after reports of a man with a knife.
This exclusive picture shows armed officers in the area yesterday, March 21 2026, just after 10:30pm.
According to a source police were searching for suspects while emergency services were also on the scene.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Piccadilly Circus Underground station at 10.17pm on Saturday (21 March) following reports of a young man seen with a knife at the station. Officers attended, including firearms officers, however the man had fled the scene.
"Urgent enquiries are ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 quoting reference 832 of 21 March."
The TFL Access X account posted on Saturday night: "This station is closed due to a police incident. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses."
It later posted that the station had re-opened.
A woman received minor injuries to her hand, but police said it wasn’t from the knife and instead occurred when she fell during a press of people moving away from the incident.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.24pm on Saturday 21 March to reports of an incident at Piccadilly Circus Underground Station, W1J.
“We sent a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene.
“Our first crews arrived in less than two minutes.
“We treated a patient at the scene and they were taken to hospital by a third party.”
