EXCLUSIVE: Met cop was 'secret shisha bar boss who assaulted customer at unauthorised venue'

ree

A MET Police cop was secretly involved in the running of an illegal shisha bar where he allegedly assaulted a member of the public, a misconduct case will hear.

PC Yaseen Mukith, who resigned during the investigation, is accused of failing to declare to the force a business interest in the Tamak Lounge in Barking, as required.

The venue operated as a shisha bar, without getting planning permission for the change of use, despite warnings from the local authority and being hit by an enforcement notice to stop on August 30 2022.

In June 2024 Tamak Ltd, which ran the venue, and two other directors, were slapped with fines and costs totalling about £8,000, after they admitted offences of failing to comply with the enforcement notice under and allowing smoking in an enclosed area.

The misconduct panel will hear allegations that, as Mr Mukith was also involved in the company, he neglected his duties as a director.

A public notice published ahead of a two-day hearing set to begin in south London on July 8 said: "It is alleged that former PC Yaseen Mukith, whilst off duty, assaulted a member of the public at the Tamak Lounge.

"It is alleged that in acting this way former PC Yaseen Mukith breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of 'Discreditable Conduct', 'Orders and Instructions' and 'Honesty and Integrity'."

The hearing will consider if Mr Mukith, who was based at North East Command Unit, would have been dismissed, if found guilty of the allegations, had he still been a serving officer.
