The family of a man who had died seven months after a serious assault have spoken publically for the first time, describing him as "the most genuine and reliable friend".

Detectives in the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate launched an investigation after emergency services were called to Riverview Centre, Vange, near Basildon, Essex, shortly after 6pm on Saturday 4 May 2024 where Hassan Bousanguar, 42, was found seriously injured in the communal hallway.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition where sadly, in December 2024, he died.

Essex Police has continued to support his family and work hard to investigate the circumstances around this incident since May last year.

Hassan’s family said in tribute: “Hassan will always will be a much-loved son, brother and uncle.

“He was the most genuine and reliable friend with selfless commitment to people and humanity.”

Codey Nolan, 33, of HMP Chelmsford, has been charged with his murder.

He is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on 14 July.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Lydia George, said: “A huge amount of work has been undertaken by our officers since this incident was first reported to us in May last year.

“Throughout that time, the victim’s family have acted with the upmost dignity, and I would ask that their privacy continues to be respected while this case continues to court.”
