ARMED police mobbed a Manor Park street after reports of a man seen with a firearm.

The drama unfolded last night from 7:27pm on Whitta Road, near the train station.

Witnesses said there were about seven armed police vehicles and several officers in the street.

Officers in at least seven gun unit vehicles were seen arriving on the evening of June 29 2026 at about 7.:30pm.

Officers with guns were then seen to head towards a flats block in the road.

They then gained entry to one of the blocks.

One onlooker said: "Armed police were everywhere, running up and down the road. First you could see them with an old man and then they were trying to get in another flats block before about ten went inside."

A Met Police spokesperson said: "At 19:27hrs on Monday, 29 June officers, including armed units, attended an address on Whitta Road, Manor Park to reports of a man seen with a firearm.

"At the address a man in his 80s was found with a cut to the arm. He did not require hospital treatment. He was initially arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm but was de-arrested a short time after.

"A BB gun was recovered and removed from the address.

"As part of enquiries, a man in his 50s was subsequently arrested at another address on Whitta Road on suspicion of aggravated burglary and actual bodily harm (ABH).

"He remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing."

Anyone who witnessed anything that may help police with their investigation is asked to call 101 quoting reference CAD 7630/29JUN.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
