EMERGENCY ON M11: Firefighters deal with incident on busy motorway near Harlow Essex

FIREFIGHTERS attend to an incident involving a vehicle on the M11.

Three fire engines were seen on the hard shoulder of the southbound carriageway of the busy motorway north of Harlow in Essex at about 4:40pm today April 22 2026).

Firefighters were seen attending to a black car with its bonnet up.

According to a report on the Colchester Gazette two lanes were shut on the Londonbound M11 carriageway between Junction 8 by the A120/Stansted and Junction 7a at Harlow north.

The incident was first reported around 11.40am this morning, it said.

According to National Highways, there are three miles of congestion on the approach to the crash.

Meanwhile, Essex Live reported that an oil spill affected traffic in the opposite direction between the same junctions.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
