Drama in Maldon as woman 'assaults police' in High Street after earlier alleged attack on boy

A WOMAN assaulted two police officers while she was being arrested after allegedly assaulting a child and harassing members of the public.

Drama unfolded in Maldon High Street, Essex, on the morning of Friday, October 6 2023, when three police vehicles were seen on blue lights near Market Hill.

A crowd of onlookers gathered as several officers tried to get the suspect into the custody van.

One witness said they understood the detainee to be a woman who was said to have been abusing members of the public in the area for some time.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "This was originally reported on Wantz Road.

"We received a call at around 8:30am on 6 October following reports of a woman assaulting a young boy and harassing members of the public.

"The suspect was located on Maldon High Street and while being arrested, assaulted two Essex Police Officers.

"The 44-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault, racially aggravated intentional harassment, criminal damage, assault against a police constable and assault against a person causing actual bodily harm.

"She has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue."
