BREAKING NEWS: Unconfirmed reports of major 'armed' police operation in Burnham-on-Crouch

A LARGE police presence has been reported in Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, tonight on social media.

Essex Police has been contacted but is yet to respond, so all reports are unconfirmed.

According to posters on The Burnham-on-Crouch Group on Facebook it appeared to be a major incident with claims of up to 50 police officers, some armed, involved.

Five ambulances were also reportedly seen in the area.

Residents have been unable to ascertain the nature of the incident, but it was suggested one local man was involved and the incident ended after 10pm with no reported injuries.

One posted jokes that "they did not know there were this many police in Essex."

Another said they spoke to police at the scene who said there were officers from all over the county taking part.

People approaching the town on Burnham Road, were turned around by police with ambulances seen at the entrance to Burnham Waters, it was said.

King Edward Avenue was blocked off during the incident, they said.
