Arrest after police helicopter pursuit after moped rider 'failed to stop on stolen vehicle'

A MAN was arrested after allegedly failing to stop at the scene of an accident on a stolen moped.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a moped in Rochford Avenue, Waltham Abbey., Essex, at around 8.55am on 6 May 2026.

It was reported the moped failed to stop at the scene.

Officers attended and one person was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision and theft of a motor vehicle.

He was arrested after a National Air Polive Service (NPAS) helicopter was brought in for the search while it was returning from another job.

An NPAS spokesperson said: "At 9:07am on Wednesday 6 May 2026, whilst on route back to their base, the crew of a NPAS North Weald helicopter deployed to the Waltham Abbey area to assist Essex Police in a search for two suspects. Officers on the ground were directed to two suspects and a vehicle by the crew. Total flying time on the task was 14 minutes."
