Armed police swamped Swinton after woman 'attacked in property' - man arrested for alleged assault and possession of weapon bailed


ARMED police swarmed an Rotherham street after reports that a woman had been assaulted at a property, we can reveal.

Several police vehicles, some containing armed officers, were seen blocking the street in Swinton, on the morning of Thursday, October 8 2025.

There was speculation online as to what had happened after South Yorkshire Police released no details of the incident.

Activist Sammy Woodhouse posted on X with an image of police at the scene: "The situation in Swinton, Rotherham is causing growing concern. With speculation online, South Yorkshire Police must issue a statement. The community deserves clarity, not rumours."

The force has now issued a statement after we made enquiries: "We were called at 7.01am last Thursday (8 October) following a report of an assault at a property in Rotherham.

"Armed officers attended and arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of assault, affray and possession of an offensive weapon."

The force confirmed the alleged victim was female and the suspect had since been released on police bail while the investigation continues.
