EXCLUSIVE: Man loses hand at barracks housing Royal Horse Artillery

A MAN's hand was ripped off as he cleared a blockage in a boiler at the barracks which is home to the Royal Horse Artillery, it has emerged.

Memed Felou Abadja was working on a green energy biomass boiler when he lost the hand on August 11 last year at the King's Troop Barracks in Woolwich, south London.

Details emerged as his employer Morgan Sindall, one of the country's biggest construction firms, was charged with a health and safety breach by the Health and Safety Executive.

Barracks biomass boiler was taking place, that measures were taken to prevent access to a dangerous part of the biomass boiler pusher unit, specifically the hydraulic ram, and that your employee Mr Memed Felou Abadja suffered a hand amputation as a result on an activation of the hydraulic ram, whereby you are guilty of an offence."

At a brief hearing at Westminster magistrates Court this week the firm entered no plea and the case was adjourned.

The company could face an unlimited fine if found guilty.
