Thousands of pounds seized by Met Police in counter terrorism probe

COUNTER terror police have seized around £9,000 as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected funding of terrorism.

Officers from the National Terrorism Financial Investigation Unit, run by the Met Police, executed a search warrant at an address in Dalmeny Avenue, Islington, north London on October 30 as part of the investigation.

A Met Police spokesman said: "During the search, officers found a quantity of cash - approximately £9,000 - which was seized under the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001.

"An application was made and granted on 1 November, 2019 at Westminster Magistrates' Court to detain the funds for a further three months."

The money belongs to Dilara Begum from the address that was searched.

A further application for the continued detention of the £9,360 funds was made to the same court with the cash detained until May.

The spokesman added: "No arrests have been made and enquiries continue."
